Davis Day 2023

June 12, 2023

I spoke and participated in the annual Davis Day service in Sydney Mines on Sunday, June 11th, 2023.

The day holds immense historical significance as it honours the memory of William Davis, a prominent labour activist who played a pivotal role in the struggle for workers’ rights.

Being there with others to ensures the preservation and the advancement of the labour movement’s history or ideals and goals. Moreover, speaking at Davis Day helps uphold William Davis’s legacy and the labour movement’s mining history. It serves as a reminder of the struggles faced by workers in the past and highlights the ongoing challenges we continue to confront.

The Federation of Labour’s presence and participation ensures that the event remains relevant and meaningful, reinforcing its historical significance. It enables the Federation of Labour to advocate for workers’ rights, fair wages, safe working conditions, and social justice. It provides an opportunity to raise awareness about current issues and rally support for legislative reforms and policy changes for workers.

Davis Day is a powerful platform to promote social and economic justice for all workers as the struggle continues.
