IBEW Local 1928 Members on Strike in Queens Municipality

January 9, 2025

Today, Thursday, January 9, 2025, the 36 dedicated members of IBEW Local 1928 have initiated strike action against the Municipality of Queens. These skilled workers are vital in maintaining the region’s public services like streets and properties, operating waste and recycling facilities, and running water and sewage treatment plants.
In a recent vote on the municipality’s settlement offer, 35 out of 36 members decisively rejected the proposal, opting to stand firm in their demands. The primary issues at stake include:

  • Wages: Workers are advocating for fair and competitive compensation.
  • Weekend Work: The employer’s proposal to have weekend work at straight time has raised concerns among members.
  • Union Representation: The employer’s failure to recognize the union’s representation of temporary employees is a significant point of contention.

We encourage all union and community members to support the workers during this critical time. Join them on the picket line on Hank Snow Drive to show solidarity with those who keep our community running smoothly. Your presence and support can make a difference!
