Statement from the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, during Paramedics Service Week

May 20, 2025

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour is proud to recognize and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and incredible skill of paramedics, Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), and Lifeflight teams represented by IUOE Local 727 during Paramedic Services Week. These workers are true heroes who save lives, provide comfort, and make a real difference in every Nova Scotia community.

Every day, paramedics and EMRs are on the front lines of healthcare, responding to emergencies, disasters, and critical situations. Whether it’s a car crash, a medical emergency, or a life-threatening situation, they are there, calm, prepared, and ready to serve. Their quick thinking and specialized training are vital to ensuring the health and safety of Nova Scotians. They don’t just provide medical care; they offer hope to people in some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

The strength and courage they show are unmatched. Paramedics and Lifeflight teams face intense pressures, long hours, and physically demanding work. They also carry the emotional weight of their jobs while continuing to serve with professionalism and compassion. These workers are the heart of our emergency response system, and their commitment to their communities is truly inspiring.

During Paramedic Services Week, we call on all Nova Scotians to thank these incredible workers. Let’s show our appreciation for their selflessness, skill, and the sacrifices they make to keep us safe. They deserve our respect and gratitude every single day.

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour stands in solidarity with IUOE Local 727 in their ongoing efforts to ensure fair treatment, safe working conditions, and proper support for paramedics and EMRs. These dedicated workers should always have the resources and respect they need to carry out their lifesaving work.

On behalf of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, we sincerely thank all paramedics, EMRs, and Lifeflight teams. Your dedication and strength inspire us all. You play a vital role in our province; we proudly stand with you. Thank you for everything you do.
