Nova Scotia Federation of Labour Supports CUPW Workers

May 20, 2025

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour stands with the 55,000 Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) members who may go on strike starting this Friday. These dedicated postal workers are vital to public service, delivering millions of letters and packages across Canada annually.

CUPW members ask for fair wages, better working conditions, and a sustainable future for Canada Post, which is an essential Canadian service. This action is about protecting their jobs and the public service millions of Canadians rely on daily.

We encourage Canada Post to engage in meaningful talks and work towards a fair agreement with CUPW. The union is trying to negotiate in good faith, and Canada Post should respond with the same commitment. No one wants to strike, but when you’re backed into a corner where you need to stand for your dignity and respect, who can blame them? A strike would affect the workers and their families. Workers cannot just unionize under the Canadian Charter but also have the right to strike, and the government should not interfere.

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour believes in a future where public services like Canada Post are strong, with fair practices that protect workers’ rights while effectively serving communities. Now is the time for solidarity and solutions, not corporate delays or moves to privatize these essential public services.

We call on the public to support CUPW members who deserve dignity, respect, and fairness. Together, we can help workers and communities thrive, and union jobs are essential for our local economies. These members have our solidarity.
