Statement from the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour on Asian Heritage Month

May 13, 2025

May is Asian Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Asian communities in Nova Scotia and across Canada. This month reminds us of the rich cultural diversity and history that Asian people bring to our province. Asian workers have played a key role in building our communities, from early railway workers to today’s education, healthcare, and business leaders. Their hard work and dedication have made Canada stronger and more vibrant. At the same time, we must acknowledge the discrimination and racism Asian communities have faced throughout history and still experience today. The labour movement stands firmly against anti-Asian racism and all forms of hate. We will continue to advocate for fairness, inclusion, and respect in every workplace and community.

Let us use Asian Heritage Month as a chance to learn more about the diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Asian people. We can build stronger connections and a more united society by celebrating this diversity. To all Asian workers and their families, we recognize your essential contributions and wish you a joyful Asian Heritage Month. Together, let’s celebrate and work for a brighter future for everyone.
