NSFL President Danny Cavanagh addressed the NSNU AGM today
NSFL President Danny Cavanaugh addressed members gathered at the NSNU AGM in Truro today bringing greetings on behalf of the Federation.
Excerpt from his speech:
“Dealing with severe staffing shortages and high vacancy rates leaves hospital units critically understaffed, compelling nurses to work extended hours and manage an unacceptable number of patients.
Every nurse deserves a work environment free from harm, violence, and harassment. We must prioritize safe working conditions.
Many nurses’ overwhelming burden leads to burnout. We must advocate for sufficient staffing to safeguard both patients and nurses.
We must proactively address the growing need for resources to help nurses cope with stress and job dissatisfaction.
Nurses must influence budgets, policies, and planning decisions. Their expertise should be recognized and valued.
We are committed to preserving our public healthcare system and ensuring equitable access to quality health services without financial barriers.”
Cavanagh also spoke about the NSFL campaign on Violence in the Workplace.
Violence and harassment are not part of the job!
Join us to oppose workplace violence. By taking this pledge, we commit to fostering a culture of safety and respect in our workplaces and collaborating to prevent violence in all its forms.
We know that in today’s workplaces, the rise in workplace violence is a pressing concern, especially for those in positions of public exposure. Frontline workers are our everyday heroes who often face violence and harassment at work. This issue is a social problem and demands immediate action.
Our campaign is committed to eliminating workplace abuse and ensuring all workers can carry out their duties free from fear.
