International Day of Pink – April 10, 2024

April 8, 2024

The International Day of Pink is an annual event held on the second Wednesday of April, which falls on April 10th in 2024. This global initiative aims to raise awareness and address issues like bullying, discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia that negatively impact LGBTQ2+ youth. The Day of Pink originated from an incident at a Canadian high school in 2007 when students David Shepherd and Travis Price stood up against bullying by wearing pink. This act of solidarity evolved into the International Day of Pink, established by Jer’s Vision, now known as the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity.

Wearing pink on this day symbolizes support for the LGBTQ2+ community. It globally takes a stand against bullying, representing values of acceptance, courage, diversity, equality, inclusivity, kindness, and solidarity on a global scale. The event includes educational programs and community activities to foster a more inclusive society that promotes acceptance.

Bullying and discrimination, especially against LGBTQ2+ individuals, can significantly impact mental health and well-being. The International Day of Pink serves as a reminder that all sexual orientations and gender identities are valid and deserving of respect, urging everyone to contribute to a world where people are embraced for who they are.

The International Day of Pink has gained substantial support worldwide, with over 8 million participants in 2012. This initiative extends beyond Canada, encouraging people globally to wear pink and stand united against bullying in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. The upcoming International Day of Pink on April 10, 2024, signifies a crucial moment for fostering acceptance and diversity. It is a day for individuals and communities to unite, wear pink, and raise their voices against bullying and discrimination, supporting the continuous fight for equality and acceptance of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
