World Water Day, March 22

March 22, 2023

World Water Day is important for people worldwide, particularly those living in Canada and Nova Scotia. As a country and a province with vast bodies of freshwater, we must recognize the importance of clean water and work towards preserving this vital resource for future generations.
According to recent statistics, nearly a quarter of the world’s population lacks access to safe drinking water. Water scarcity is becoming increasingly urgent in many places due to climate change and unsustainable practices. This year’s World Water Day theme, “Valuing Water,” emphasizes the need to recognize the actual value of water as a fundamental human need and a natural resource essential to our economy, society, and the environment.

In Nova Scotia, access to clean water is a top priority for the government and local communities. From protecting our oceans and rivers from pollution to investing in infrastructure upgrades to improve water distribution and treatment systems, there is a concerted effort to ensure everyone can access the water they need to thrive.

On this World Water Day, let us raise awareness about water’s importance and take practical steps to protect and conserve this precious resource. As individuals, we can reduce our water usage at home, make sustainable choices about the products we buy, and support organizations and initiatives that preserve our water for future generations.
