The NSFL will join the Teamsters Rally in Halifax with a call to respect workers’ rights

Halifax – The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour will proudly participate in the Teamsters rally scheduled for Tuesday in Halifax, coinciding with the gathering of the Liberal caucus.
This rally represents a critical moment for workers across our province and country. We stand united in our message to the Liberal government: respect the collective bargaining rights of workers and cease interference in the bargaining process.
NSFL president Danny Cavanagh states, “We’re joining the Teamsters to send a clear and unequivocal message to the Liberals: stop siding with the employers and corporate interests at the expense of the hardworking individuals who drive our economy. Workers deserve respect, and that begins with recognizing their rights to fair bargaining under the Canadian Charter.”
Cavanagh emphasizes that the recent interference in the collective bargaining process, particularly through binding arbitration, is not a viable solution. “The resolution to disputes must be found at the bargaining table, where both parties can negotiate in good faith. Workers are not just numbers on a balance sheet; they are the backbone of our communities and our economy.”
Furthermore, Cavanagh calls on the Liberals to shift their focus from handing out corporate subsidies to providing substantial support for the people on the ground.
“It is a disgrace that many corporations pay less in taxes than the workers who sustain them. We demand a fairer system that prioritizes the needs of workers over corporate profits. Together, we must advocate for a fairer and more just society for all workers in Nova Scotia.”
The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour invites all concerned workers to join us at the rally to stand up for collective bargaining rights and demand accountability from our government.
