Statement on the Anniversary of September 11

September 11, 2025

Today, on the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and the many more whose lives were forever changed. We honour the courage of first responders, workers, and people who stepped up in the face of tragedy. As a labour movement, we recognize the many workers, firefighters, police, health care staff, and countless others who risked their lives and died that day.

We also remember how people here in Canada came together to help. Communities welcomed thousands of travellers who were grounded when flights were diverted. Neighbours opened their homes, schools, and community halls to provide shelter, food, and comfort to strangers in need. That spirit of solidarity and generosity showed the best of who we are.

This anniversary reminds us of the importance of solidarity, compassion, and community in times of crisis. We stand with all those who continue to carry the pain of that day, and we recommit ourselves to building a safer and more peaceful world for everyone.
