Statement from the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour on World Health Day
Every year, on April 7th, we celebrate World Health Day. This day is essential for raising awareness about health issues affecting our communities. Health is not just about visiting the doctor when we are sick; it is about creating a healthy society where everyone can thrive. We know that good health is linked to good jobs. When workers, including healthcare workers, have safe working conditions, fair wages, and benefits, they can better care for their health and ours. Unfortunately, many Nova Scotia workers including health care workers still face challenges like low pay and unsafe workplaces.
This World Health Day, we want to remind everyone that we must work together to ensure that all workers, including those in healthcare, have the support they need. This includes mental health resources, healthcare access, and better protections for workers’ place rights.
We also want to highlight the importance of community. Health is influenced not just by individual choices but also by our environment. When communities unite to support one another, we can create healthier places for everyone.
Let us use this World Health Day to inspire change! We call on all levels of government, businesses, and individuals to invest our workers working in the health care system. Together, we can build a future where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Remember, health matters, and we all play a part in making it better for everyone!
