Remembering April 18-19, 2020

April 17, 2025

Today, we mark the fifth anniversary of the devastating mass shooting that unfolded in Nova Scotia on April 18 and 19, 2020. This horrific event, which claimed the lives of 22 people, including a woman and her unborn child, and injured three others, remains the deadliest mass shooting in our country’s history.

On this solemn day, the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour joins the nation in mourning the memory of those who were tragically taken from us. We also draw strength from the spirit and resilience of the survivors, the families of the victims and all those who were impacted by this tragedy.

We honour those we lost and remember your strength and the strength of all who came together in these darkest times. We are reminded of our communities’ resilience and the power of the collective spirit. We also acknowledge the ongoing work and commitment required to make our communities safer, more inclusive, and more peaceful.

As we reflect on this tragic event, we are reminded of the importance of our collective commitment to safety, peace, and inclusivity. We remember the lives lost, the communities affected, and the resilience in the face of this tragedy. We will do whatever it takes to make our communities safer, more inclusive, and peaceful.

Today, we remember. Today, we stand together. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to a safer, more peaceful Country.

We will never forget:
