Nova Scotia Federation of Labour Statement on Education Week Sunday, May 11 to Saturday, May 17

May 11, 2025

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour is proud to celebrate Education Week 2025. This year’s theme, Empowering Futures, reminds us of education’s vital role in shaping students’ lives and our province’s future. Education is the foundation of strong communities, a thriving economy, and a brighter tomorrow. It would not be possible without the incredible dedication of those who work in our schools, colleges, and universities. Teachers, educational assistants, custodians, administrators, librarians, and all other support workers in the education system, as well as instructors and staff in the university and community college sectors, are true learning champions for the kids.

Their hard work, commitment, and passion for education help students reach their full potential and build a better future for Nova Scotia. Teachers guide our children through their formative years, helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Educational assistants provide crucial support, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive. Custodians and other support staff keep our schools safe and welcoming learning places. They create a positive environment where students can grow and achieve great things. Instructors and support workers are equally important in our universities and community colleges. They prepare young adults for careers in trades, professions, and other fields that drive our province forward. Whether it’s through hands-on training, mentorship, or research, these workers empower students and strengthen our communities.

During Education Week, we encourage everyone in Nova Scotia to take a moment to recognize and thank the people who make our education system strong. Whether you’re a student, parent, or community member, your support means the world to those who dedicate their lives to learning and teaching. Together, we can continue to empower futures and create a prosperous Nova Scotia for generations to come. The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour stands in solidarity with all education workers, and we will continue to advocate for the resources, respect, and fair treatment they all deserve. Thank you to everyone in the education sector for your incredible contributions.
