Nova Scotia Federation of Labour backs CUPE flight attendants
The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour (NSFL) has passed a motion of full support for Air Canada flight attendants, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), who have gone ten years without a new collective agreement.
Federation of Labour President Danny Cavanagh says these these workers are facing real hardship.
“Some earn as little as $1,900 a month before taxes, and they are forced to work 35 hours or more every month with no pay. No one in Canada should be working for free,” he adds.
CUPE has launched a national campaign to end unpaid work and win a fair collective agreement. CUPE Nova Scotia will support the union’s actions and work with them provincially in this province, standing in solidarity with the flight attendants.
“Air Canada has benefitted from these workers’ dedication through tough times, including COVID and record inflation, while dragging its feet at the bargaining table,” Cavanagh says. “It’s time for respect, fair wages, and an end to unpaid work.”
The NSFL calls on all affiliates, union members, and the public to support CUPE’s campaign and stand with flight attendants in their fight for fairness.
