Letter to NS Premier Houston urging the formation of a multilateral task force on tariffs
Dear Premier Houston,
The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour urgently requests your leadership to establish a multilateral task force on potential trade tariffs. These tariffs may significantly impact core industries and pose a critical risk, potentially losing thousands of Nova Scotian jobs and destabilizing our province’s economy. We know you have been working with your provincial counterparts on a national response, and we thank you for your ongoing efforts. In light of this serious threat, we urge you to establish a multi-lateral task force to address the potential impact of tariffs on Nova Scotia. We believe that a collaborative and proactive approach is essential to protect Nova Scotia’s workers and businesses from the potentially devastating effects of trade tariffs.
We suggest that here in our province, we pull together on the ground a group of Indigenous organizations, labour unions, and industrial and business leaders to be brought together immediately to coordinate a plan to help affected workers, industries and communities in Nova Scotia.
By bringing together key stakeholders, this task force can develop effective strategies to safeguard our economy and ensure a prosperous future for all Nova Scotians. It is crucial that a specific provincial task force is formed to evaluate the full impact and any resulting layoffs on Nova Scotia’s workforce and develop appropriate responses to support affected workers and sectors. We look forward to your prompt action in assembling this task force
