August is Acadian Heritage Month

August 1, 2025

Proclaimed in 2023 and celebrated for the first time in August 2024, Acadian Heritage Month recognizes and honors cultural, social and economical contributions made by Acadian communities in Nova Scotia since their first settlement in Port-Royal, over 400 years ago.

In August, all Nova Scotia will have the opportunity to explore the province’s remarkable Acadian heritage, by taking part in activities highlighting Acadian history, traditions and culture.

The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour recognizes the invaluable contributions of Acadians to the labor movement. Acadian workers have played a crucial role in fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, and workers’ rights. Their dedication and activism have helped build a more equitable society for all workers in Nova Scotia. During Acadian Heritage Month, we also acknowledge the important economic and cultural contributions of Acadian businesses and organizations. Acadian entrepreneurs and community leaders have made significant contributions to our economy, creating jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering a sense of community pride.

Let us embrace the diversity of our province and work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society for all. The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour stands in solidarity with the Acadian community, and we will continue to advocate for the rights and well-being of all workers. Together, let us celebrate Acadian Heritage Month and recognize the important role Acadians play in shaping the social, cultural, and economic fabric of Nova Scotia.
