African Heritage Month
The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour is proud to join workers, families, and communities across the province in celebrating African Heritage Month 2026. This year’s provincial theme — “Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power, and Progress” — speaks directly to the values that guide our movement and the collective power we build when we stand together.
African Nova Scotians have shaped this province for more than 400 years. Their leadership, resilience, and contributions continue to strengthen our workplaces, our unions, and our communities. This month, we honour that legacy while recognizing the ongoing work required to confront anti‑Black racism, dismantle systemic barriers, and ensure that every worker is treated with dignity and respect.
Unity is not passive. It is an active force for justice — one that grows when workers support one another, when communities organize, and when we commit to equity not only in words but in action. The theme’s focus on purpose, prosperity, power, and progress reflects the labour movement’s belief that fairness and opportunity must be shared by all.
We also pay tribute to the elders whose wisdom, stories, and leadership continue to guide African Nova Scotian communities. As knowledge keepers and culture bearers, they remind us of the struggles that brought us to this moment and the responsibility we share to build a better future.
The NSFL reaffirms its commitment to:
- Advancing racial justice in workplaces and unions
- Supporting African Nova Scotian workers and communities
- Strengthening equity-focused education and advocacy
- Building solidarity across all sectors of the labour movement
This month — and every month — we stand united in the fight for fairness, equality, and collective progress. Strength in unity is not just a theme; it is the foundation of our work and our vision for the future.
In solidarity,
