Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Week: October 6–10, 2025
This week, from October 6 to 10, we celebrate Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Week in Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour joins our unions, workers, families, and communities across the province in recognizing the vital work that CCAs do daily to care for some of our most vulnerable citizens.
CCAs are the heart of our continuing care system. Whether in long-term care homes, home care, or community care settings, these workers provide essential hands-on support and compassionate care to seniors and people with disabilities. They help with daily needs, offer comfort, and bring dignity to the lives of those they serve. Their work is emotional, physical, and deeply human.
We know CCAs face serious challenges, such as low wages, heavy workloads, staff shortages, and unsafe working conditions. These are not just “workplace issues.” They affect the quality of care in our communities and the dignity of workers who give so much of themselves to others. The truth is, the system depends on them, and they deserve better.
The Federation stands with CCAs and their unions in calling for fair pay, full-time jobs, and safe staffing levels. Every CCA deserves to know that their work is valued, not just with words, but with respect, job security, and decent working conditions. Governments must ensure that investments in continuing care go directly to improving wages, staffing, and care, not corporate profits or cost-cutting.
As we mark CCA Week, thank these essential workers for all they do. But let’s also commit to action to fix the system that too often undervalues their vital work. A strong continuing care system starts with strong, respected, and fairly paid workers.
