Minimum Wage Increase Falls Short

April 1, 2025

I am concerned about the recent increase in the minimum wage in Nova Scotia, which now ranks as the fourth lowest in Canada. While any increase is a step in the right direction, it is not enough to support workers and their families in our province.

Once again, workers are left with only crumbs in terms of wage increases. This new rate does not come close to what is needed for a living wage. With inflation rising and prices at the grocery store skyrocketing, many families are struggling to make ends meet. People struggle to provide for their families, pay rent, and afford necessary medications.

The NSFL believes that Nova Scotia needs to take bolder steps towards establishing a living wage. We should be proud to lead the way in Canada by ensuring all workers earn enough to live with dignity.

The current minimum wage increase does not reflect the realities of life in Nova Scotia. Workers deserve fair pay for their hard work; we must do more to support them.

The NSFL calls on the provincial government to listen to workers’ voices and take action to ensure that everyone can thrive in our great province. It is time to prioritize the well-being of Nova Scotians and create a future where everyone can succeed.
